Faraday cup

A Faraday cup is a metal cup which can be used as a detector of charged particles in vacuum. To this end, the cup opening is oriented such that the charged particles can enter and the current from the cup to ground is measured. Faraday cups are often used in residual gas analyzers in addition to an electron multiplier. The sensitivity of the Faraday cup is much smaller than that of the electron multiplier but it can also be used at higher rest gas pressures.
